The 2024 European Beach Index ranks beaches on factors such as water and air temperatures, waves and five-star reviews - this one is officially the best.
Summer might be trying to make an early exit in Scotland this year, with Storm Lilian battering the country, but that doesn't mean you can't still escape the bad weather for a last-minute beach holiday.
This index rates 10 European beaches by rating their various elements including sea and air warmth, visitor reviews, daily expenses, and surf heights. Based on those criteria, Nissi Beach in Ayia Napa, Cyprus has been named the best beach in Europe. What's more, the good news is that its easy to get to from Scotland, with direct easyJet flights from Glasgow to Aiya Napa operating throughout the summer.
Beyond the beach, which is a stunning 500m stretch of golden sand with beach umbrellas, turquoise waters, volleyball courts and watersports, Aiya Napa itself is a lively and action-packed place to visit.
