The former Longhorn was ‘Agent Zero’ at Texas for three seasons, but he lost out on No. 0 with the Cowboys.
Dallas Cowboys linebacker DeMarvion Overshown works out on an exercise band during the team’s mandatory mini-camp at The Star in Frisco, June 5, 2024. Stephens tore his ACL last year.for 2024 and appears to be ahead of schedule. He’s hit the ground running in Oxnard, but as it turns out, a rookie season wasn’t the only thing he’s lost out on.Overshown made a name for himself as “Agent Zero” with the Longhorns, where he wore jersey No. 0 for three seasons.
“They say okay, we’re gonna let people wear zero,” Overshown recalled in the interview. “And I’m like, okay, this is meant to be! Like, I am supposed to be the first person to wear zero for the Dallas Cowboys.” Not so fast, Rook: There were a few Cowboys who wanted No. 0, and the rookie Overshown was the low man on the totem pole.A rookie not getting his desired number is nothing new, but Overshown said he took it as a sign he needed to “step up and make some plays” and earn the jersey number himself.“Maybe I gotta go make some plays,’ Overshown said. “So I come out to training camp with that on my mind. If I want zero, I gotta give them a reason to say my name.
Still?! Now that just seems like bad luck, as Kearse isn’t with the team in 2024 and Micah Parsons is locked in at No. 11. So who could possibly be taking No. 0 from Overshown this time?Dallas Cowboys mascot Rowdy high fives fans as they tailgate before an NFL football game against the New York Giants at AT&T Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2019, in Arlington, Texas. “Me and Rowdy are cool,” Overshown admitted. “Me and Rowdy are good friends, and he’s been wearing that number for the longest.
So there you have it, No. 13 DeMarvion Overshown. Maybe if he bounces back from his lost rookie season and makes some plays in 2024-25, Rowdy will step aside and let Agent Zero return to form.
