YOUNG drug dealers are being offered free tax-payer funded driving lessons in a bid to stop them reoffending.
Offenders who are caught selling drugs are being given the option to undergo on-road training instead of facing the courts.Young drug dealers are being offered free driving lessons in Bristol to help stop them reoffendingThe program, Call In, is being trialled by Avon and Somerset Police to give troubled youths in Bristol a second chance.As a part of the scheme, young dealers will also be offered career counselling, fitness sessions and English lessons.
The teenagers can even undertake a course with Street2Boardroom, another program which aims to turn "street hustlers into legitimate business entrepreneurs".The program hopes to give troubled youths a second chance and give them the skills needed for employmentParticipants must be aged between 16 and 21 and not have been convicted of any sexual or violent crimes to be selected for the course.
And if they are suspected or commit any other offences while undertaking the program, they will be removed and charged. Gary Haskins, Det Supt at Avon and Somerset Police, said to BBC: "What I do see is an awful waste of talent and bright young individuals that have turned to criminality."We're giving them basic life skills that perhaps weren't available at the time.
