Seven-year-old Dutch Minibike champion Sid Veijer tragically passed away from injuries sustained in a training accident.
Tributes have poured in for a talented young bike racer, Sid Veijer, who was killed after a training accident. The seven-year-old Dutch Minibike champion was injured in a training accident shortly before Christmas and rushed to hospital by air ambulance. De Telegraaf reports that he underwent four operations in just fortnight as medics fought to save his life, but tragically passed away from his injuries, which a family statement had described as 'very serious.
' Sid, who is the cousin of Moto2 rider Collin Veijer, was following in the family wheel tracks as a talented motorsport star - becoming the Dutch Champion in the Minibike Junior A class in October. The same class that Collin, who was the first Dutch rider to win a GP in more than 30 years, had claimed a decade earlier - and the Red Bull KTM Ajo rider was one of the first to pay tribute, writing on Instagram: 'Sid, you fought as hard as you could with everything that had happened, but this hard and difficult fight you couldn't beat. 'I'm very proud to be your cousin and will never forget the fun times we had together even though I wasn't at home much. I will never forget the memories and never forget you as a person. You will forever be on my mind. You make me more motivated to fight as hard as you did. I love you Sid.' A family statement meanwhile said: 'Last Monday there was a small glimmer of light surrounding Sid's situation. By the end of the week, that glimmer of light turned into the darkest scenario and it became an unfair fight that Sid could not win. Sid fought like a lion. 'We - Renold and Rianne, Boyd, Muck and Loek - fought with him until the last minute with everything we had in us, the doctors and nurses did what they could. Sid died in the presence of his warm family.
