Students in the Young Entrepreneurs Academy pitched their ideas to a panel of investors on Thursday, April 11, 2024.
Rochester, New York — Think of the reality television series "Shark Tank," but all the competitors are middle or high school students.Area students between the ages of 11 and 18 in the program spend nine months learning from local business leaders about executing a vision for a product or service.
“There's a lot of competition with small businesses today and the Young Entrepreneurs Academy has given me so much insight into the business world and I’ve been able to meet and work with professionals that I wouldn't have been able to at all without the program and it's been a lot of fun too,” said Daphne Hix, student at Hilton High School, CEO of 24/7 Baby.
“It's really taught me to believe in myself, have more confidence in my work, and be independent along the way as I build this company from the ground up,” said Kendall Jones, student at Victor Senior High School, CEO of STUDYSTYLEZ.Three student businesses that presented were selected to advance to the national competition next month, where they will compete against students from across the country to win college scholarships.
