A new report has found 88 per cent of young families are in mortgage stress and nearly 2 million rental households are now spending more than they earn, creating 'a perfect storm in regional Australia' according to one expert.

He says things have been most difficult for many of the single mothers in the community who lack extra financial support because ISIS killed their husbands.

Laura, who has opted not to disclose her surname, is a single mother and previously only visited Food Assist intermittently."As the price of groceries and things have gone up, I come every week," she said.
