Michael King was arrested on Christmas Eve last year but denied committing his crimes but was found guilty after a trial
Michael King, 33, was arrested on Christmas Eve last year after the girl - who was ten when the abuse started - confided in a friend who reported it to adults.
Prosecutor Brian Russell said the girl's mother had provided a victim impact statement to the court and said: "For all of us to be able to move forward, we need justice for what happened and I hope when this nightmare is over it brings her the justice she deserves." "She will often say to us that she doesn't like adult life and wants to remain a child but wants to talk about what happened to her in a very adult way. It is terrifying for me to know that one day, in the not too distant future, she will understand the significance of what happened to her. It is difficult for her to process something she wants to forget about and doesn't understand.
Following the sentencing, Detective Inspector Mark Tester, of Leeds District Safeguarding Unit, said: “King preyed on this vulnerable young girl and repeatedly raped and sexually abused her over several months for his own gratification. His actions have had a significant traumatic impact on the victim’s life.
