The Transport Secretary has said she is not concerned about food shortages if farmers go on strike. Welsh campaign group Enough is Enough is calling a national strike for British farmers, starting today, to stop producing food until the decision to impose inheritance tax on farms is reversed, while other farmers are considering industrial action.
' She went on to defend the budget, saying: 'These tax measures are applied to farms that are worth over £1m, and only in inheritance tax situations. 'And even when inheritance tax is applied, it's set at half what everyone else would apply on that threshold.' Asked if she can assure the public that there are contingency plans in place to ensure there are no food shortages if farmers do ratchet up action, she replied: 'Well, of course.
