The qualifying period for this year’s Child Winter Heating Payment is this week, September 18-24.
Social Security Scotland has announced that an annual payment designed to help disabled children and young people heat their homes is changing its name. From this winter, Child Winter Heating Assistance, will become the Child Winter Heating Payment.
People who get these benefits during the qualifying week of 18 - 24 September will receive a Child Winter Heating Payment. Social Security Scotland said that families will receive a letter to confirm they are entitled to the payment and money will be paid automatically into the same account as their qualifying benefits. Nobody on a qualifying benefit needs to apply separately to get the payment, however, in certain circumstances some people may need to apply - find out more about this here.
In total, £13.4 million in Child Winter Heating Payments have been issued since the devolved benefit was introduced in November 2020. If a child or young person gets a qualifying benefit but does not live in Scotland between September 18 and September 24, 2023, they might still qualify if they:Latest Benefits News When will payments be made? Social Security Scotland delivers the benefit and has not yet confirmed when payments will be made this year. Last year’s payments started landing in accounts from the end of October. Families will receive a letter of confirmation to coincide with the payment being made.
