Groups of young people assembled in the area armed with sticks and other weapons

A young person has been assaulted after "rival groups" armed with weapons clashed in East Belfast on Saturday evening.

Officers attended the scene and attempted to separate the groups and clear them from the area, and later received reports that one young person had been assaulted.Police have said they are looking through CCTV in the area at the time of the incident in the hopes of identifiying anyone involved in criminal activity.

Inspector Carey said: “Officers separated the groups and cleared them from the area. We have received a report that one young person was assaulted during the incident and we are currently conducting further enquiries into this matter.
