Laura Broadwell, 27, suddenly collapsed after getting up to go to the bathroom and was rushed to intensive care where she sadly passed away.
A ‘fit and healthy’ young woman tragically died just hours after undergoing a routine operation on her jaw. Laura Broadwell was admitted into Castle Hill Hospital in Cottingham, East Yorkshire, for the procedure on November 17 last year.
She confirmed Laura died after developing deep vein thrombosis following eight hours in surgery. When she got up to go to the toilet, blood clots travelled from her calf to her lungs which caused cardiac arrest. Laura's fiance, Ryan Hardy, described how she had lived life to the full and was very popular in a statement read out at the hearing. He said: "We had six very happy years together. We were engaged and had bought a house together.
Mr Hardy said in his statement: "When the surgeon discussed the procedure with Laura he said the chance of death from such surgery was so minimal it was not worth talking about." A statement was also read out from Laura's mum Dawn in which she said: "Laura had a good relationship with me and her brother. She was very family-oriented. She was also a conscientious worker.
This meant surgery was the best option. He said: "The surgery went very well. The blood loss was not excessive and everything went to plan. I cannot recall any complications"
