A prominent figure in Victorian politics has pleaded with Eddie McGuire to run as a candidate for Melbourne lord mayor. Here's why:
McGuire recently confirmed he had been approached about running for the coveted position but quipped he was more likely to seek out another role in the AFL.in June declaring McGuire the"obvious answer to fill the mayoral role". "I think I would rather be the President of Carlton." McGuire also noted he had"other business interests" and"other things" in regards to his television career that he was more interested in pursuing.
"In life, sometimes an individual is called upon to serve. Edward McGuire, that time has come for you. Your city needs you." Mr Kennett said it was incumbent on Melburnians to"not allow Ed to politely decline this opportunity". He said there had been a"rate of decline" during Ms Capp's time as Lord Mayor and while she was a"nice person","the time has come for a new leader with authority, and an agenda to reopen the City of Melbourne".
