Youth suiciderates in US linked to shortages of mental healthcare workers at county level luriechildrens JAMAPeds
Dr. Hoffmann and colleagues evaluated 5,034 suicides by youth aged 5-19 years that occurred from 2015 to 2016. Of 3,133 U.S. counties, more than two-thirds were designated as mental health workforce shortage areas.
"Mental health workforce capacity can be increased through integration of mental health care into primary care settings and schools, and through expansion of telehealth services," said Dr. Hoffmann, who also is the Children's Research Fund Junior Board Research Scholar.
