GMP confirmed via a social media post that it was the units fifth arrest for possession of a knife in the last seven days.
Two youths have been arrested after being found in possession of knives in Manchester this weekend. It comes amid growing concern about knife crime in the city.
The Greater Manchester Police Transport unit were undertaking a routine patrol at Victoria Tram Station, when they spotted a young group of males who reacted to the police presence. The force confirmed via a social media post that it was the units fifth arrest for possession of a knife in the last seven days. GMP said "this behaviour will not be tolerated". Earlier this week Andy Burnham said 'there is no knife epidemic' in Greater Manchester. It came after a 19-year-old student was killed in a 'random' knife attack in Fallowfield.
It's illegal to carry most knives or any weapons in public without a ‘good reason’. Anyone under the age of 18 caught carrying a knife in the UK could receive a community sentence, a fine or imprisoned.
