Japanese star will start Padres' first game for third time in four years when Padres play Dodgers on March 20 in Korea
Yu Darvish is once again the Padres' opening-day starter, his third time getting the honor in his four seasons with the club. The Japanese star will be on the mound at Gocheok Sky Dome on March 20 against the Dodgers, when the teams open the 2024 season in Seoul, South Korea. Joe Musgrove is scheduled to start the other game in Korea. The Padres will face new Dodgers starters Tyler Glasnow and Yoshinobu Yamamoto, in that order, in the two-game series.
The second game will be the MLB debut for Yamamoto, who signed a 12-year, $325 million contract with the Dodgers after a dominant seven-year run in Japan. The 37-year-old Darvish leads the Padres in starts and innings since joining the club before the 2021 season. After making 30 starts in '21 and '22, he made just 24 last season, a campaign that started late and ended early.
