The Ukrainian President's plan, which needs Western allies' backing, includes an unconditional invitation to join Nato, and extra weaponsIn a speech to the Ukrainian parliament on Wednesday, Mr Zelensky said his blueprint included five points that relied on Kyiv’s allies, including an unconditional invitation to join Nato and extra weapons support.
Dr Marina Miron, of King’s College London’s defence studies department, said she did not believe the plan, even if it implemented as Mr Zelensky outlined, would lead to a Ukrainian victory. “I see more of a catastrophic scenario for an all-out war going nuclear rather than Russia surrendering,” she said. “We shouldn’t be tricked into thinking that Russia doesn’t have any allies.”
“Western help is now diminishing for a variety of reasons. We have a global supply chain crisis, we have a logistical crisis because of the Red Sea, we have a looming conflict in the Middle East, and we have, of course, the US presidential elections.”
