A loophole in the law that meant the weapons could be kept and sold will end on September 24 this year

Zombie knife owners have been urged to surrender their weapons ahead of a new law change that will outlaw the blades next month. Merseyside Police has joined other forces as part of a month-long national surrender scheme that will make it illegal to own certain styles of zombie knives and machetes. Under the new measures, which are due to come into force from September 24 this year, it will be illegal to possess, sell or manufacture or transport the zombie-style knives and machetes.

Superintendent Phil Mullally, Merseyside Police's lead for knife crime and serious violence , said: 'This law change broadens the classification of zombie knives , which were banned in 2016, and gives police new powers to seize and destroy these dangerous weapons which feature a blade of over 8 inches in length and other distinct characteristics.
