Aston Villa are set to make a substantial profit on their initial £64 million investment in Colombia international, Alex Duran . The 21-year-old, who joined Villa from Chicago Fire for £18 million in January 2023, has completed his medical in London ahead of his move to a Saudi Pro League club. Villa, guided by manager Unai Emery , were navigating close to the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability (PSR) limit last season.
Clubs are only permitted to lose £105 million over a rolling three-year period. To avoid breaching these financial regulations, Villa strategically sold players such as Douglas Luiz, Tim Iroegbunam, and Omari Kellyman before the 30 June accounting deadline. While Villa made significant transfers this season, including acquiring Donyell Malen from Borussia Dortmund for £20 million and selling Jaden Philogene and Diego Carlos for a combined £30 million, the impending sale of Duran will alleviate their PSR concerns and allow them to pursue further signings before the transfer deadline on 3 February. Villa are actively exploring a loan move for Chelsea defender Axel Disasi to bolster their defensive lineup. However, if they secure both Disasi and another Chelsea player, at least one of these deals must be permanent due to Premier League regulations restricting clubs from having more than one loan player from another top-flight team. Despite the transfer activity, Leon Bailey remains a vital asset for Emery, having contributed 11 goals and nine assists in 32 appearances this season
