MasterChef judge Grace Dent highlights Brett on Great Western Road as 'very possibly Glasgow’s best restaurant' in her Guardian column. The west end spot, led by chef director Colin Anderson, has reopened with a new spring menu after refurbishment. Dent praises its artistry, biodynamic wine list, and standout dishes like the Monkfish tail main.
MasterChef’s Grace Dent has named one Glasgow restaurant among her top venues to eat at in the UK. The 52-year-old has made her debut as a judge on the amateur cooking series, joining Irish chef Anna Haugh as new co-hosts.
Grace had previously presented the celebrity edition of the show alongside John Torode. Although famous for her TV appearances, she is a restaurant critic by trade and she has previously appeared on shows such as The Professionals and Great British Menu. And in one of her rare forays north of England in 2024, for her Guardian column, she found what she describes as 'very possibly Glasgow’s best restaurant'.
Delighted by the artistry cooked up in such a small space, at Brett on Great Western Road in the west end, Grace said: 'You could come to Brett simply to sit up at the bar and savour the lengthy biodynamic wine list, or sip a corpse fizz with Roku gin and absinthe, but you’d be missing a trick.
'Despite its self-effacing charm, Brett is actually the younger sibling of fine-dining Cail Bruich a little further up Great Western Road. What’s more, Brett’s chef director is Colin Anderson, formerly of Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in London, so it’s probably worth checking what he’s got on the specials.
' Delighted by her three courses, she described the main, Monkfish tail main as 'comfort food with the chef’s foot fully on the gas'. Describing it as 'very possibly Glasgow’s best restaurant right now', she added that on a warm summer night in Glasgow, she can think of 'no better spot' than one of the tables in Brett’s window, to sit, eat and watch the passing nightlife.
What's more, the highly acclaimed west end spot has just reopened following its refurbishment, with an exciting new menu for spring. First opened back in 2019, Brett is led by chef director Colin Anderson who joined in 2020, and clearly must know his stuff to have impressed such an experienced judge.
