Halifax Issues Important Guidelines on Replacement Debit Card Timeline and Activation

Halifax has clarified key details about replacement Visa debit cards, including typical delivery timelines, activation requirements, and how to order a new card if needed. Customers are advised to ensure they complete a Chip and PIN transaction to activate contactless functionality upon receipt.

Halifax has outlined important guidelines regarding customer accounts. The update comes after an enquiry from an account holder about changes to their card. The customer reached out to the provider via social media, explaining they were awaiting their replacement Visa debit card.

They wrote: "My current one expires at the end of June. Please can you tell me when I should receive this through the post by?

" Halifax replied with some crucial timescales for account holders to be aware of. The bank said: "Your replacement card is usually sent out in advance and should arrive within five working days, although it may sometimes arrive closer to your current card's expiry date. You should receive your new replacement card before your old one expires.

" Customers may need to take action The customer went on to ask whether they would need to activate the contactless function on the new card or if it would work immediately. Halifax confirmed that some action would be required. The bank explained: "You'll just need to activate your new card first before you can use contactless payments. Once it's activated, you can use it as normal, including contactless.

" To enable contactless functionality on a bank card, customers must first complete a Chip and PIN transaction. This means visiting a shop or using a cashpoint and entering your PIN number, which will activate the contactless function. How to get a replacement Halifax bank card Should your Halifax bank card become damaged or stop working, a replacement can be requested either through the mobile app or via online banking.

Once ordered, your new card should reach you within five working days. Alternatively, you can also call Halifax for help. To order a replacement debit card, you can call 0330 912 6218. Customers who need a replacement credit card should ring 0345 944 4555.

Phone lines are open between 8am and 6pm, seven days a week, though they are closed on bank holidays. Alternatively, you can contact Halifax directly by telephone to arrange for a replacement card to be dispatched. If your card has been lost or stolen, the dedicated number to call is 0800 015 1515.
