The new episode of Call the Midwife sees Trixie Aylward caring for a recently discharged pregnant woman struggling with a new psychiatric drug. Meanwhile, gonorrhoea cases are on the rise, and Dr. Turner implements a contact-tracing scheme. A friendship blooms between Rosalind and Cyril, and the usual cast returns with guest appearances from actors like Andrea Vasiliou, Jennifer Brooke, and Paul Bigley.

Call the Midwife is back on BBC One and the upcoming episode sees Trixie Aylward (played by Helen George) face a new challenge as she looks after a heavily pregnant unmarried woman recently discharged from the Linchmere Mental Hospital. After being diagnosed with depression and mania, Arlene struggles with a new psychiatric drug.

Meanwhile, gonorrhoea cases are on the rise again and are causing alarm in the district, with Dr Turner (Stephen McGann) implementing a contact-tracing scheme run by the Greater London Council. A friendship between Rosalind Clifford (Natalie Quarry) and Cyril Robinson (Zephryn Taitte) continues to blossom as they volunteer at the homeless shelter. All of the usual cast will return for the second episode of the season, including Jenny Agutter as Sister Julienne and Linda Bassett as Phyllis Crane. Viewers will also see the return of Cliff Parisi and Annabelle Apsion as Fred and Violet Buckle. Expectant mother Zeta Demir is played by Andrea Vasiliou, an actress and model who is passionate about playing strong women in films. She has previously starred in Gran Turismo, FBI International and Warchief. The star has also trained with the stunt team for Wonder Woman and Justice League, playing an Amazonian Warrior. Ada is played by Jennifer Brooke, a British actress known for playing Rachel Hardy in Hollyoaks . Besides acting, she is also an acting teacher for children and in 2020 she co-launched B.O.S.S Acting School. Arlene is played by Abigail Hood, a playwright and actress known for her work on Spiral and Monster. Mr Parry is played by Paul Bigley, a theatre and TV actor known for his roles in Shakespeare in Love and The Danish Girl. Viewers may have also spotted him in The Crown, Ted Lasso and Pennyworth. Zeta's partner Mehmet Demir is played by Kyle Abdullah, who has previously starred in Joan, Alex Rider and Boat Story. Eric Wilson is played by Bertie Hawes, who trained with Apollo Theatre Arts. The young star has appeared in Malory Towers, Annie and Housekeeping. Ted is played by Howard Ward, a British actor who has appeared in War Horse and EastEnders. Viewers may also recognise him for his roles in The Bill and Downton Abbey. Ray is played by Edward Mercieca, a theatre actor who launched FM Theatre Productions with his wife Marika in 1998. The Maltese actor has previously appeared in Game of Thrones, Napoleon and Helen of Troy. Mr Rudd is played by James McGregor, who viewers may recognise from Emmerdale and Casualty. He most recently starred in Silo and As Dusk Falls. Tilly is played by Venice Van Someren, a theatre actress known for Doctor Who: Time War, The Grand Silence and Doctor Who: The Fourth Doctor Adventures.
