Apple's fitness technologies VP Jay Blahnik is retiring after accusations of bullying and creating a toxic workplace. The retirement comes after approximately 13 years with Apple and amid lawsuits from former employees.

The New York Times reported that Blahnik, 57, was a key figure in the development of the Apple Watch's fitness features, but his time at Apple has been overshadowed by these allegations. Apple previously settled one sexual harassment complaint involving Blahnik. The company is also facing a lawsuit filed by former employee Mandana Mofidi, 41, who alleges she was bullied by Blahnik.\Mofidi, who joined Apple in 2021 to lead audio efforts, claims to have experienced Blahnik's aggressive behavior firsthand. According to court documents, after raising concerns about unequal pay compared to her male colleagues, Mofidi was allegedly subjected to a campaign of criticism and isolation. She stated that after raising concerns she was subject to criticism in emails from staff working closely with Blahnik, allegedly to get her fired. After seeking help from Human Resources, Mofidi was told that the harassment would stop while the claims were investigated. In April 2023, she was given the option to take a buyout or improve her performance. The company’s health app, determined she was experiencing anxiety and depression, and after an internal investigation finding no wrongdoing Mofidi was subsequently denied a transfer to another division and ultimately resigned, citing the continuation of a toxic environment. Mofidi’s lawsuit against Apple and Blahnik is scheduled to go to trial next year. Apple has disputed the claims, emphasizing its commitment to a positive workplace and stating it will share the facts through the legal process. The company’s response has been consistent in denying the allegations and pointing to the ongoing legal proceedings for a full resolution of the matter.
