A fraudster who attempted to claim nearly £500,000 in injury damages from a road crash has been given a suspended sentence. Patricia Rogers, from Barnsley, falsely claimed to have suffered a back injury that left her unable to walk unaided. However, an investigation by insurer NFU mutual revealed that she was able to walk without assistance for long periods, even appearing on The Jeremy Kyle Show where she ran across the stage. The judge described her decision to appear on the show as 'an extraordinarily stupid decision.' The fraudulent claim was initiated by her stepfather, who has since passed away.
A fraudster who tried to claim for nearly £500,000 of injury damages from a road crash has been handed a suspended sentence . Patricia Rogers, from Barnsley, tried to claim the huge sum of £492,141 after she was involved in a crash in 2014.She said she suffered a back injury that meant she was unable to walk without a stick or crutches.
She alleged that her back pain stopped her from standing up for more than 10 minutes at a time and that she could only walk with a stick or crutches. But earlier that day investigators filmed her leaving her home and walking her two dogs for around 40 minutes. She held the lead of one of the dogs and walked unaided, with no obvious discomfort. Rogers later went into a shop and emerged holding a walking stick. She used it for a short distance, then lifted it off the ground and walked back home.
