You can leave the Yorkshire stretch of the M62 at every single junction in both directions - except one.
Considering it only offers half the options of every other junction between Rishworth Moor and Hull, you might refer to it as 'half a junction'. However, this minor motoring inconvenience is not due to lazy engineering, but rather financial prudence.So, why can't you exit westbound at Junction 23? Because the A643 Lindley Moor Road and a housing estate block the way, both of which predate the design of the motorway stretch in the early 1960s and its construction in 1970.
Shifting the M62 north to make room for an exit slip road also isn't feasible due to the steeply sloping terrain. This same terrain is the reason you can't join the eastbound M62 at Junction 23.
