Poundland's Makeup Gallery Lip Products Gain Viral Popularity

A beauty writer tests Poundland's Makeup Gallery lip products after seeing rave reviews on TikTok, finding surprisingly good quality and variety for just £1-£2. The products, including lipliner, lipstick and gloss, offer a budget-friendly alternative to high-end brands.

Beauty enthusiasts will always have that one go-to item that they can't live without. For me, it has always been, and will always be, a good lip product.

Now, while I have been known to love high street brands and designer names including MAC, I am always looking to save money. That's why, taking the advice of TikTok, I decided to get myself to my local Poundland . Why, you may ask? Well, according to numerous influencers and shoppers on the video sharing app, the discounter's Makeup Gallery brand is something of a secret favourite.

First launched in 2014, it has gone on to become something of a viral sensation. Namely for its lip products, with some fans going as far as to say that they are 'obsessed' with them and that they are 'the best' on the market. With prices coming in at around £1 and £2, who was I to argue with the social media algorithm?

That's why, as a beauty writer myself, I decided to pick up three products in particular, a lipliner, lipstick and gloss, basically the essentials for the perfect pout. With the entire total coming to just a fiver, it's definitely one for those who are sticking to a budget. Before I even share my thoughts on each product, I will admit that I was pleasantly surprised to find a wide variety of shades on offer.

With everything from light naturals to dusky pinks and bolder reds, everyone is catered for, which is an immediate plus in my book. Not to mention that the packaging was quite sleek and chic, looking a bit more expensive than the budget price-tag suggested. As for me, I started with the Get Lippy Lipliner in that was the cheapest of the bunch at £1.

I'll admit, I have never been one for lipliners in the past, finding them that the right lipstick should be able to give me the impression of a fuller pout on its own. Alas, my pout is slightly on the thinner side, which is why I gave it a shot. Despite its budget-friendly price, I'll admit that I was impressed with the creamy, smooth formula that shaped my pout quite smoothly.

There was no cracking around the edges or blunt lines, not to mention that it looked quite pigmented. Picking up the 'Worthy' shade, which was slightly more on the nude-end of the scale, it offered the right definition without being over the top, not to mention the built-in sharpener was a neat addition. I paired the liner with the Get Lippy Moisturising Lipstick, priced at £2, in the 'Courageous' shade, which was just slightly less dark.

As someone who has slowly been making her way from matte to more hydrating formulas, I was intrigued to see if this could be a new addition to my cosmetics bag. And the result is quite mixed, with a lot more positives than drawbacks.

First of all, I loved the buttery formula that literally melted into my lips, matching quite well to the shade of the liner that acted as a perfect barrier to prevent that dreaded 'feathering' look. Considering its hydrating elements, it is ideal for those like me who are trying to move away from matte lippies that tend to be more drying.

The shade itself was also not overly rich, being more on the lighter side, making it perfect for daywear, or for those who tend to opt for a more natural look. That being said, I did find that it didn't last that long, with me needing to add on a fresh coat within a couple of hours. I won't say that's a bad thing, especially considering its budget price.

But it's something worth considering, especially when the liner remains in perfect place, leaving it look like you haven't finished your makeup . The last product I tried was the Gloss Over It Lip Gloss in a shimmery shade, which really was more of a personal buy. Mainly because I am a bit of a sucker for anything glittery, which is something I have never outgrown as an adult.

Said to give an 'instant burst of hydration with every application', it was actually quite moisturising and not sticky at all, which can be the case with some glosses. The shade also wasn't overly shimmery, with a light iridescent glow that made the perfect top coating on top of my lipstick, or as a little pop of colour when worn without.

It's safe to say I was fairly impressed with Poundland's lip products, especially considering their price and hype on social media . From chic, modern packaging to surprisingly upmarket formulas, they certainly worked out better than I initially expected. While I do have mixed reviews on the lipstick durability, I can't complain at £2, while the lipliner and the gloss have made certainly decent additions to my cosmetics bag, with the latter being something of a surprise favourite overall.
