You can leave your tributes in the comments below. Maureen Robbins, of Earby and formerly of Oswaldtwistle , sadly passed away on Thursday, April 16, aged 91 years. In her younger years after completing her training at Myrtle Street Hospital in Liverpool, Maureen would become a children’s nurse at Accrington Victoria Hospital before later becoming the nurse manager of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Queen’s Park Hospital in Blackburn .

In her spare time and during her retirement she kept herself busy with many different activities and hobbies. She was an avid traveller having visited many countries as well as every continent, where she had a particular interest in the world’s wildlife. She enjoyed reading, watching crime dramas, playing board games, doing puzzles and also quizzes.

Her faith also played an important role with her attending numerous churches over the years, including Holy Apostles in Cheltenham, St Paul’s in Oswaldtwistle and St James and Cobham Road Mission in Accrington and most recently St Mary’s in Kelbrook, where she was a member of the PCC. Maureen was also an active volunteer in her local community and a member of the Oswaldtwistle Civic Society.

She would regularly participate in puppet groups and often bake, knit and make craft items for community fundraisers to help raise much needed funds, as well as being a lifetime supporter of many charities including UNICEF, the RNLI and other numerous children and animal charities. A dearly loved wife of the late Donald.

Maureen sadly leaves behind her much-loved children Gillian and Philip, her treasured grandchildren Georgina, Sophie, Howard and Gregory, great grandchildren Ezra and Micah and the family of her late sister Elsie. Her funeral service will take place at 11am, on Wednesday, May 6, at St Mary’s Church, Kelbrook prior to committal at Accrington Crematorium.

BB5 3DR. Tel: 01254 390542. James “Jimmy” William Fielding, of Oswaldtwistle, died at home on Tuesday, April 14 aged 80 years, surrounded by his loving family. He started work as an apprentice at English Electric and in time he went on to R.G.

S. Pneumatics and then into sales, travelling all over the country and the world, finally becoming sales director before he retired. Jimmy was an avid supporter of Liverpool Football Club and a member of Accrington Golf Club for 38 years, becoming Captain in 2002. Jimmy loved holidays in the sun, gardening and DIY, but most of all he loved spending time with his loving family and friends.

Jimmy leaves his loving wife Mavis, sons Paul and Jason, daughters-in-law Rachel and Gemma, brother Barry and dear brothers and sisters-in-law and his beloved grandchildren. He was also an uncle and friend to many. The funeral will be at 11.40am on Wednesday, May 6 at Accrington Crematorium BB5 6HA. Family flowers only.
