Archaeologists have uncovered a treasure trove of 13,000 relics dating back to over 3,000 in southwestThe artefacts were unearthed in six sacrificial pits at the Sanxingdui archaeological site, near Chengdu, as reported by Chinese state media on Monday.
The latest finds are expected to shed light on the Sanxingdui kingdom, which ruled in the western Sichuan basin until it was conquered in 316 BC. Among the many gold, bronze and jade relics, the researchers were most intrigued by a turtleshell-shaped box and a sacrificial altar.
