Houston and Baylor both look like they could have Top 10 teams next year, which is good timing with the Final Four returning to the Alamodome.
The state of Texas has hosted 10 Final Four s, but a Lone Star State school has never made it that far in any of those years. The last two seemed to be set up nicely for a Texas school to get to play in its home state with University of Houston, Texas and Baylor all earning top three seeds at the 2023 NCAA Tournament, which concluded at Houston’s NRG Stadium. Instead, Baylor lost in the Round of 32, while Miami eliminated Houston in the Sweet 16 and Texas in the Elite 8 .
’s “way-too-early” top 25 for next year has the Cougars ranked seventh, and that was before the news that guard L.J. Cryer, the leading scorer from last year’s team, has decided to return. That means UH returns four out of five starters but, of course, they have to find a way to replace do-everything point guard Jamal Shead, who was an All-American.
