Clothes can be left stinking on bonfires and fireworks after a Guy Fawkes night celebration
Millions of people across the UK are celebrating Bonbfire Night this weekend, but the after effects can linger much longer than you want. Smoke from bonfires and fireworks clings to clothes and this can prove to be a tricky smell to eliminate.
Fortunately, Sophie Dickson, washing machine expert at AO.com, has shared their top tips for popping the wash on after Guy Fawkes Night.“Baking soda is your best friend when it comes to eliminating any smoke smell clinging to your clothes. Simply add a quarter of a cup of baking soda to the drum of the washing machine with your usual amount of laundry detergent.
“You can also use vinegar to the same effect. Why not try adding a cup for your wash after Bonfire Night?“A little-known fact is that smoke can be stubborn and resistant to lower temperatures in the wash. Instead, when you put on your wash, turn the heat up to the maximum allowed for your fabrics.“If your clothes still stink of smoke after the initial wash, soak them in water along with baking soda and leave them overnight.
