The man’s body was found around 4 a.m. north of Crystal Pier in Pacific Beach about two hours after he went missing in the ocean
A 25-year-old firefighter from Oakland died early Thursday when he apparently drowned after walking out into the ocean at Pacific Beach during a beach gathering.
The man’s body was found around 4 a.m. along the shoreline just north of Crystal Pier, said San Diego Fire-Rescue Lifeguard Lt. Rick Romero. Someone in the group called 911 after “they lost visual of him,” he said. “No one ever saw him struggle or call for help. All of a sudden he was there and wasn’t there.”
