The payment window is set to open on October 31 for eligible people on DWP means-tested benefits.
Millions of people claiming means-tested benefits are due to receive the second part of the £900 cost of living support between October 31 and November 19. Payments of £300 will land automatically into more than 8 million bank accounts directly from the Department for Work and Pensions or HM Revenue and Customs .
Despite previous warnings from DWP and HMRC that nobody needs to apply for the payment, that doesn’t seem to be stopping scammers from sending texts and emails to people urging them to make a claim, or they may miss out on the money. Another member said: “It’s a nightmare trying to stay up to date on all the scams that are out there at this time. So many people still fall for these scams as they are getting more and more advanced!”
Below is a reminder of the upcoming £300 cost of living payments including when to expect the money, eligible benefits, qualifying periods and what happens with joint claims. For joint Tax Credits claimants, where one claimant receives Working Tax Credit and the other claimant receives Child Tax Credit, payments will be made into the same bank account as the Child Tax Credit.
People can check their eligibility for Pension Credit using the online calculator on GOV.UK here or by calling the Pension Credit helpline on 0800 99 1234. We also have a handy guide to the benefit here.
