Substandard RAAC planks were discovered last year
West Lothian councillors have backed plans to build £35m replacement classrooms St Kentigern's Academy.
It was built in 1973 and refurbished in 1995/6. An extensive refurbishment of the school was completed in September 2009. Council leader Lawrence Fitzpatrick,backing the plan outlined by Finance Director Patrick Welsh told the meeting "It is absolutely essential that we find a rapid solution." He said: "The existence of RAAC predates the existence of the Scottish Government. This is a UK wide problem that derives from UK building standards."
Executive councillor for Education Andrew McGuire told the meeting " It is time for the Scottish Government to step up to the plate to help with this." "We have been pro-actively dealing with RAAC for a number of years in West Lothian, before it became the national issue it is now, and are investing over £53 million to rectify council buildings affected by it.
