Manchester City transfer news as Julian Alvarez future takes another twist after Pep Guardiola back-and-forth leaves exit debate
For once there is no Manchester City summer signing transfer saga. There is no Harry Kane, Jack Grealish, or huge arrival of Erling Haaland. Six weeks into the window and it is the potential exit of Julian Alvarez attracting most attention.
Guardiola, made aware of the comments, accepted his words. "I know he wants to play important moments, yeah," the Spaniard said during City's pre-season tour of America. "But the other ones too. 18, 19 players as well want to play the big games. I read he wants to think about it. Okay, think about it and after that he will inform us what he wants to do.
Now the issue remains with wider links to Paris Saint-Germain. It has been claimed that Luis Enrique's side will turn to the City man if a deal for Victor Osimhen is not achievable. Enrique is described as being a big fan of Alvarez as well, with talks holding up for their primary target. Alvarez is such a valuable player that anything below £60million isn't worth entertaining, but more than that and there's a conversation to be had. City are investing in a frontline for the future and although Alvarez has a place in that if he remains, the club will back themselves to get a replacement of high quality without losing too much on the pitch immediately.
The comments Alvarez has made in response to Guardiola shouldn't be too much of a concern. Unless their relationship has completely broken down, which I doubt, then the Argentine should remain at City where he can still play a key role in their success going forward. With that in mind, Alvarez clearly still has a crucial role to play at Etihad Stadium and should stay for at least another campaign, with the exit links likely as a ploy to earn a new bumper contract or increase transfer interest going forward.
Kieran King Having played second fiddle to Haaland for the majority of his time at City since arriving from River Plate two years ago, it's no surprise that Alvarez is assessing his options. In my opinion, the 24-year-old is among the most underrated attackers in the Premier League, and his record can back that up.
