The floating planet earth replica, which was created by artist Luke Jerram, measures seven meters across its diameter and slowly rotates, just like the earth itself.Gaia has been installed near the northeast entrance of Birkenhead Park .
The artwork is 1.8 million times smaller than the real earth. By standing 211m away from the artwork, the public will be able to see the Earth as it appears from the moon. Alongside Gaia, a number of community cultural events have been organised in Birkenhead Park this week, bringing together local artists and community groups year as part of Wirral's year as Liverpool City Region Borough of Culture 2024.
