A wreath laying ceremony and memorial service for a World War 2 bomber crew that crashed in the Elan Valley will be held on December 12, 2023, marking 80 years since the tragic event.
A memorial service and wreath laying ceremony for the crew of a World War 2 Halifax LL541 bomber, which crashed in the Elan Valley on December 12, 1944, will be held on the 80th anniversary of the crash. The crew included Flight Officer Ernest Brautigam, Pilot Officer Gerald Lister, Sergeant John Overland, and Flight Sergeant James Preece. These young airmen, aged between 19 and 20, were buried with full military honours at Blacon Commonwealth War Cemetery in Chester.
The event will also include a memorial service at St. Clement’s parish church, Rhayader
