Sky News host Chris Kenny says the major sporting codes are looking at campaigning for the Voice yes campaign.

“This could be quite the full court press because we’re talking about the AFL, the NRL, Netball, Cricket, Soccer, Tennis, all the major sports lining up for the yes campaign,” Mr Kenny said. “This is great to the extent that it reflects public goodwill, but they need to be very careful here – there are plenty of people who love their sport and want to vote no, and plenty of others who just don’t want to be preached at.

“It has to be okay to vote no, first because that’s just the way it should be in the contest of ideas, but also if people feel pressured, the backlash will only hurt the yes case – it’ll backfire so tone is everything.”
