A 95-year-old thought to be the oldest working tailor in the UK is still stitching from the comfort of his care home, over 80 years after he first picked up the needle and thread.

After leaving school at the age of of 14 in the 1930s, Elwyn was expected to follow his family into the mines. Elwyn spent much of his long career making Burberry skirts and enjoyed many years tailoring men’s suits before retiring at the age of 80. Elwyn said: ‘I was expected to go into the mines as a lad but I’m glad I decided to go into tailoring instead.
