Volynets hopes to build new mid-tier copper play
"Consolidation is the name of the game," Artem Volynets, chief executive of ACG, told Mining Journal as the former chief of EN+ and head of strategy at Russia's Rusal works to build up a new London-listed pureplay copper producer. ACG announced last week a deal to buy the Gediktepe polymetallic mine in Turkey and pivot it toward copper production with a new brownfield expansion. This is planned to be the first in a series of deals for mines in Africa and the Americas.
Volynets said that following the failure of this deal, he was now aiming solely for copper assets. "I think at this stage, for the next two or three years at least, you want to focus on copper because that's where the opportunity is.
