The protest took place on Clumber Street on Saturday morning
Climate activists protested in Nottingham city centre on Saturday morning calling for an end to fossil fuel financing from banks. They highlighted the impact the fossil fuel industry is having on the climate change crisis, particularly in disadvantaged countries, by lying on the ground in Clumber Street.
Protesters called for a grant-based climate finance, additional to existing climate finance, and overseas development assistance, arguing this can be funded by taxing polluting oil and gas corporations. David Eminson, 70, was at the protest, which started at 10.30am and finished at 12noon. “The biggest funders of the polluters are the banks. If people are banking personally with any of these banks, then they are individually contributing to the breakdown of our climate and they should move to another bank.”
