An anti-duck hunting coalition will lay dead birds at Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan’s office on Tuesday morning amid growing calls to ban the practice in the state.

In protest at the decision, the Coalition Against Duck Shooting and Wildlife Victoria has announced it will display dead birds left by shooters outside the Premier’s office on Tuesday at 11am. “Although all Victorian licensed duck shooters must pass the Waterfowl Identification Test, illegally shot threatened Blue-winged Shovelers were still recovered by rescuers in the first five days of the 2024 duck shooting season,” the coalition said in a statement.Director Laurie Levy said the start of the season was the quietest they had seen.
“Instead, our rescuers struggled to find many shooters anywhere, but the few shooters we did see still shot threatened and protected species.”
