The experienced striker is out of contract and will exit Easter Road at the end of this month.
Le Fondre moved to Edinburgh after he was signed from FC Sydney last summer. The 37-year-old has netted five times for Hibs and has a one in four strike rate in the Premiership. He was signed by Lee Johnson but has remained regularly involved under Nick Montgomery after he returned from injury.
Le Fondre - who came off the bench in the defeat to Ross County - is determined to play on and is looking for his next challenge. The much-travelled Englishman has a wealth of experience through his spells with Cardiff, Reading, Rotherham, Stockport County, Rochdale and Bolton. He moved to FC Sydney in 2018 and remained there for five years, although during that time he had a spell at Indian side Mumbai City. Hibs - who have taken in investment from Bill Foley’s Black Knights - are currently under-going a review of their footballing operation after they disappointingly missed out on the top six.
The club put out a statement that also cast doubt over head coach Montgomery’s position. Hibs opened up in the bottom six with a win over St Johnstone but lost to Ross County today. Montgomery’s issue is that when he came in Johnson had more than spent the budget and his successor spent heavily on development players that have been nowhere near the first-team.
A lot of those players, who were signed on data, have been sent out on-loan. Montgomery has shown an eye in the transfer market with his signings of Myzian Maolida and Emiliano Marcondes. It has already been reported that Hibs captain Paul Hanlon will leave this summer. The likes of Lewis Stevenson and David Marshall are also set to become free agent at the end of the campaign.
