A leafy Leeds suburb has been praised for its 'village vibes' and welcoming atmosphere. Adel, north of the city centre, offers a blend of rural charm and urban convenience, attracting residents with its range of amenities.

A leafy Leeds area has been praised for its 'village vibes' and friendly atmosphere. Adel , north of the city, is home to a range of parks, a church, two schools, cafes, bars and restaurants. Residents view Golden Acre Park as the jewel in the crown of a vibrant area. Locals have not only praised the other residents but have spoken also about how convenient the area is with it nestled amid the countryside while also a short trip from the city centre.

The Adel and Wharfedale ward has a population of more than 21,000 with a population split of 23 percent over 65, 20.6 percent below 18 and 56.3 percent in between 18-64, according to the 2021 Census. Father-of-one Craig, who grew up in the area, commented on the village’s atmosphere. Craig said: “Adel itself is posh. It’s got village vibes. Everybody pretty much knows everybody. I can come here by myself and bump into someone I know. Everybody is right friendly.” He lives nearby and regularly cycles through it to visit a local café. Craig would love to move to Adel with his family but for the ‘size and price,’ of what he’d be able to afford, it wasn’t worth. Maisie Simkins, 19, has grown up in Adel. She said: “It’s quite ‘old’. There’s either old people or young families. So, there aren’t many people in the area my age. “It’s nice, friendly, secluded – which is nice, and it’s quite green which is nice. It’s near Leeds so you’ve got a bit of both, all the greenness and the urban.” Hairdresser Mandy Abrahamson has owned Hair by Demand, on Otley Road, for about 13 years. Mandy said: “Adel is a really big community, really friendly and a nice area to live in. You’ve got various different groups but everyone knows each other. 'You’ve got all your sports stuff, nature reserves like Golden Acre Park. It doesn’t matter what age you are, there’s something to do.” Father-of-one Tarun Singh, who manages curry house Dastaan, moved from India to the Leeds suburb. He loves how peaceful and calming the area is. Tarun said: “What I most love about living here is the peace of mind. In India it is very comfortable but crowded. Where I used to work, at a hotel, I was surrounded by thousands of people all the time. Now, here, when I want to relax, I go to Golden Acre Park.” Joe Socket, who manages cafe and bar The Foundation, said: 'It's quite personal here, you see quite a lot of the same people everyday and I have a good relationship with people who come in here. A lot of people know me on a first name basis.' Get all the latest and breaking news in Leeds by signing up to our newsletter here
