Austin police stop SXSW murder plot, arrest 2 felons with guns planning rapper's assassination.
Austin police arrested two men for possession of a firearm by a felon and court documents alleged they were plotting to murder a rapper near East 6th Street during South by Southwest.
According to an affidavit, officers arrested Pierre Jones on March 9 during a traffic stop on E 8th St. and found him in possession of a Taurus G2C 9mm handgun. As a convicted felon, Jones is prohibited from possessing firearms. During the arrest, Jones, who goes by "TTE Notti," told officers that two of his associates, one identified as Don "Dove Don" Bennett, were planning to murder rapper Isiaiah "OTM Zay" Jones at his SXSW concert later that night. TTE Notti was allegedly going to provide the men with his VIP pass so they could sneak weapons into the venue. He was able to get the passes because he is a podcaster who interviews local rappers, the court document said.
Police set up surveillance and observed Dove Don park his vehicle at a downtown gas station and walk towards E 6th St. He then texted TTE Notti, "I'm on the scene." Officers believed he was armed and planning to commit murder based on the information provided. Due to the risk to public safety at the crowded concert venue, a SWAT team was called in to make an arrest before he could carry out the alleged plot.
He was taken into custody and found in possession of a Glock 30 handgun, the affidavit said. Dove Don, who has a prior conviction for aggravated robbery, was arrested for unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.
