An Afghani family who fled their home country in 2015 has been reunited at the Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport after nearly a decade apart.

An Afghani couple and three of their children began the process of fleeing their home country in 2015, and safely arrived in the U.S. and settled in Rochester in 2018.Now, after nearly a decade apart, the entire family is back together. "I was living without my brother, without my soul, almost nine years," said Aleem Akrami, Waheed's brother. "Nine years I was waiting for this moment, and finally, I meet my brother."
As the holy month of Ramadan came to a close this week — the same week Waheed is celebrating his 30th birthday — the Akrami family finally reunited as one.
