Mdou Moctar formed the band with rhythm guitarist Ahmoudou Madassane and drummer Souleymane Ibrahim, in Agadez, a desert region of Niger. American bassist and producer Mikey Coltun is a Washington D.C. native who joined the group in 2017 and has produced their three most recent albums, including their latest and seventh album, “Funeral for Justice.
