The agency moved from Stage 4 rules to Stage 3, as conditions have improved in the Edwards Aquifer. SAWS customers won't see any changes for now.

The Edwards Aquifer Authority said Friday it is easing restrictions on pumping water from the aquifer, as recent rainfall in the area has eased drought conditions. The authority said 'slightly improved' water levels and spring flow readings in the Edwards Aquifer have triggered a move from Stage 4 drought restrictions to Stage 3 restrictions.

San Antonio adopts new, tougher drought rules The move to Stage 3 restrictions will allow permit holders to take a bigger percentage of the water they are allowed to pump from the aquifer. Under Stage 3 restrictions, pumping is cut by 35%, while in Stage 4 pumping is cut by 40%. This latest move comes after some parts of Central Texas have received as much as 5 inches of rain in the past week.

which gets more than half of its water supply from the Edwards Aquifer, is already in Stage 3 restrictions, so it will remain there for now, spokesperson Anne Hayden said. If the Edwards Aquifer Authority further ease restrictions to Stage 2, SAWS would also go to Stage 2 after a 15-day waiting period, Hayden said. In Stage 3, SAWS customers are still limited to outdoor watering once per week, but under the new rules different watering hours are in effect.
