He said: “How does the win over Rosenborg rate? It’s the best. I would never have dreamed I would be playing in a big European night here so when you get that chance, you’ve just got to try to take it. I didn’t travel with the team last year but I went to all the home games. Even when I got told the news I wasn’t being kept on, I was still coming along to games to support the boys.
It was also a baptism of fire for Denholm who had climbed off the bench against Rosenborg in the first leg and he admits his priority was to try and ensure he wasn’t overwhelmed by the enormity of the occasion. “I looked at the clock and it was 60 minutes and we’d got the second goal but I was thinking ‘jeez, I am knackered!’. You could probably tell. But you dig in because it is all about the win. Playing alongside Cammy Devlin in midfield, he keeps you ticking over. We are an energetic pairing as you can probably tell but now I want to keep going.
