Alaska Regional Hospital officials have moved forward for a third time proposing a South Anchorage standalone full-service emergency department.
ANCHORAGE, Alaska -
Grinold said the evidence for the need of a standalone facility is further found in the rising number of divert hours currently being experienced within the city’s existing facilities. Divert hours are when a hospital is overcrowded with patients and requires a second unit to unburden the staff. While the state has been critical of past proposals, Grinold said he’s optimistic they’ve taken much of the feedback under advisement while preparing this latest proposal.
According to Grinold, that largely had to do with the state wanting to see federal facilities removed from the hospital’s calculations, so as a result, the plan was scaled back to five beds instead.
