Alec Baldwin and Hannah Gutierrez-Reed face up to 18 months in prison after they were officially charged with involuntary manslaughter in relation to the fatal shooting of Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rust.
Halyna Hutchins, 42, died outside of Santa Fe, New Mexico in October 2021 when a gun Baldwin was holding went off with a live round despite it allegedly being thought to have prop rounds.

Picture: Mark Sagliocco/Getty Images for National Geographic “After a thorough review of the evidence and the laws of the state of New Mexico, I have determined that there is sufficient evidence to file criminal charges against Alec Baldwin and other members of the ‘Rust’ film crew,” Carmack-AltwiesBaldwin has always denied responsibility for Hutchins’ death claiming he cocked the gun but never pulled the trigger and his attorney has labelled the decision to press charges a “terrible miscarriage of justice”.
Special prosecutor appointed by the DA to the case, Andrea Reeb, was confident the evidence suggested that if Baldwin, Gutierrez-Reed or Halls “had done their job” then Hutchins would still be alive.said. The first charge is involuntary manslaughter where there must be underlying negligence for a guilty verdict.
