These are all the significant developments tabled with councils across the city-region recently
A snazzy new food hall and a huge new housing site are among the biggest planning developments tabled across Greater Manchester this week.
A previous, similar application to convert the building into 42 flats has been withdrawn with planning documents stating that the council had concerns about ‘noise, traffic and contamination’.A historic cotton mill in Greenfield could soon be transformed into a luxury retirement village for the over 55s.
Contractor, the Casey Group, has now been appointed to deliver the project, which will restore the historic slopes behind Rochdale Town Hall. The restoration project will see the Packer Spout fountain and water supply restored, alongside a natural pond.
The new Market Street food hall, named ‘The Palace’ to honour the building’s past, would also contain a 1940s themed ‘secret bar’ and a jazz bar/restaurant.A plan for a development of 147 homes on a brownfield site in Old Trafford where three large tower blocks and a pub once stood looks set for approval.
The proposals are for a new building on the half-acre site, including 31 two-bedroom and two one-bedroom apartments over five floors on Chester Road. The site is close to the boundary with Manchester city center on the edge of the Empress Conservation Area, which architect Atelier MB says is ‘very well served by public transport’ with the Cornbrook Metrolink stop only a few minutes walk away and frequent bus services.
